Public Safety Statement from PEMA and Department of Health

Both PEMA and the Department of Health have been receiving inquiries and requests for supplies of personal protective equipment, specifically N-95 masks, over the past few weeks.  The public safety and health communities should refer to the following webpages for guidance from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) on the use of N-95 masks: CDC Strategies for optimizing N95 supply: https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/hcp/respirator-supply-strategies.html  – This guidance can be implemented now to assist entities with maximizing the utilization of stockpiles currently on hand. CDC Extended use of N95 Masks: https://www.cdc.gov/niosh/topics/hcwcontrols/recommendedguidanceextuse.html  – This guidance should be used as a last resort, but is being provided for future planning efforts. Formal resource/mission requests for PPE capability related to the Coronavirus will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis.  However requestors should be aware that they should anticipate delays in a response to their request and that in the near-term, these requests will NOT be fulfilled by PEMA/DOH.  Emergency management partners are also encouraged to ensure that healthcare facilities and providers are working through their regional healthcare coalition to address gaps at the healthcare system level. Our agencies are working very closely together to deal with this situation and we understand the potential concern of all our partners, but please understand that . . . .
