Statement from new Mayor, Mike Penn

Greetings everyone! I was selected last evening by the Mount Pocono Borough Council to fill the remainder of Fred Courtright’s term. It truly has been a humbling experience, and first and foremost, I thank our the people of Mount Pocono and our Council for the confidence and trust you’ve shown in me. I also thank Fred Courtright for his service and dedication to our Borough and wish him and his family the best in Florida. By way of introduction, I moved to Mount Pocono a little under two years ago. I grew up in Perry County, Pennsylvania, a small farm community near Harrisburg and Carlisle. I studied neuroscience at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia and then moved to New York City to work in science book publishing. My career has required that I be an ideas person and that I advocate to make those ideas happen. I have a host of ideas for our Borough, all with the focus of revitalizing our downtown, our Borough, and our local economy. New Mayor Selected

At the October 1 meeting, Borough Council selected Mike Penn to fill Fred Courtright’s term.  Mike will serve until the first Monday in January, 2020. The position will be placed on the ballot for the municipal elections in 2019 and the winner of that election will take office on the first Monday in January, 2020.
