Mike Penn was selected by Borough Council to replace Mayor Fred Courtright, who resigned to move out of state.  Mike was sworn in on October 1, 2018, and his current term will expire the first Monday in January, 2024.

Previous to being mayor, Mike served as a member of the Planning Commission and as a Board Member on the Mount Pocono Municipal Authority, positions he continues to hold, as well as various Committee assignments on Borough Council.

Mike grew up in Perry County, Pennsylvania, a small farm community near Harrisburg and Carlisle.  He was high school valedictorian, always enjoying a good mix of the outdoors and academics.  He studied neuroscience at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia and then moved to New York City to work in science book publishing, where he has had a long and distinguished career, even winning the industry’s most prestigious nationwide award.  With his work, Mike has been fortunate enough to travel the world and have had the opportunity to meet Nobel Laureates, U.S. Presidents, the King of Spain, and people from all walks of life.

Mike and his husband, Julio Alegria – a ballet dancer, instructor, and Assistant Director – have lived in Mount Pocono since January, 2017.
