IMPORTANT MESSAGE:
Unhealthy air caused by smoke from wildfires in Canada's province of Quebec continues to stream into the East and will keep impacting parts of the region until a pattern change happens this weekend according to the weather channel. Residents will smell a burning smoky smell throughout the next couple of days.
Monroe County OEM & 911 are urging residents to be discerning when calling to report smoke conditions to prevent overload on the 911 system. If residents visually observe flames from a fire or emergency they are urged to call 911 immediately.
Weather experts say the air has reached a high level of pollution and is unhealthy for sensitive groups. It is recommended to reduce time spent outside if you are feeling symptoms such as difficulty breathing or throat irritation.
